Chat

Convictional's chat feature lets you send messages directly to teammates or in group conversations with replies, reactions, GIFs, file attachments, and real-time updates.

Group chats

Group chats are tied to groups in your organization. Before a group chat is available, an admin must first create the corresponding group in Organization Settings → Groups.

Once a group exists, its chat is accessible from the Chats page. You can filter to see only group chats using the Groups filter at the top of the Chats list. Group chats show the group name and member count in the header.

All members of the group can participate in the group chat. Group chats cannot be renamed.

Direct messages

You can send a direct message (DM) to any teammate in your organization. To start a DM:

  1. Go to the Chats page
  2. Search for the person's name in the search bar
  3. Select them from the contacts list

You can also open a DM panel directly from someone's profile. A floating chat window will appear on the current page without leaving what you're doing. You can minimize the panel or expand it to a full chat page at any time.

Multi-person conversations

To start a conversation with more than one person, use the compose button on the Chats page, then select multiple recipients. If a conversation with that exact group already exists, you'll be taken there instead of creating a duplicate.

Multi-person conversations can be renamed by clicking the edit icon next to the title in the chat header.

Adding people to a conversation

In direct messages and multi-person conversations, you can add new members by opening the Members panel (the person icon in the chat header). From there, click Add people and search for teammates to add.

When adding someone, you'll be asked whether to give them access to the existing message history or start fresh. If a conversation with the new group already exists, you'll be directed there instead.

Members can leave a conversation at any time from the Members panel.

Sending messages

Type your message in the compose bar at the bottom of the chat. To send, press Enter or click the send button.

The compose bar supports:

  • Rich text — formatting via keyboard shortcuts
  • File attachments — click the paperclip icon to attach a file
  • GIFs — use the GIF picker to search and insert a GIF
  • Link previews — URLs in your message will generate a preview automatically, which you can dismiss before sending

Replying to a message

Hover over any message and click the Reply button to reply directly to it. A preview of the original message will appear in your compose bar. The reply will be linked to the original message so anyone can jump back to it in the thread.

Editing and deleting messages

You can edit or delete your own messages. Hover over a message to access the actions menu. Edited messages display a timestamp indicating when they were last changed.

Reactions

React to any message with an emoji by hovering over it and selecting a reaction. Click a reaction to add or remove yours.

Typing indicators

When a teammate is typing, their name appears below the message list so you know a message is on the way.

Unread messages

Chats with new messages since your last visit are marked as unread in the Chats list. Opening the chat marks it as read.
